Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how an individual level including individual, family, and school factors and a community level such as community factors affect drinking among adolescents. Data came from the elementary school year 4 panel in the 2016 seventh year survey of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) and 109 city, county and community block data with a sample of 1,890, the first grade of high school students. The data were analyzed using a multilevel analysis. Study results were as follow: first, as for individual factors, being male and smoking increased the risk of drinking alcohol. Second, as for school factors, not following school rules and having good relationships with peers increased the possibility of drinking alcohol. Third, as for community factors, this study found that higher rates of cram schools and bars increased the risk of drinking alcohol among adolescents. Bases on these findings, implications for comprehensive drinking prevention strategies reflecting multi-level factors with individual and community levels were discussed.
